Wine, Women and Song
Well, I'm at home a workin' and a slavin' this way
You're out of misbehavin' spendin' all of your pay
On wine, women and song
While I'm a makin' bed, you're out a makin' time
You robbed my piggy bank and spent my last thin dime
On wine, women and song
Well one of these nights you gonna come home
You find it's comin' on to you
You see what you've done and what's good for one
It's also good for two
When you in the doghouse with the mingy old pup
You may start to thinkin' and a givin' up
Your wine, women and song
Well one of these nights you gonna come home
You find it's comin' on to you
You see what you've done and what's good for one
It's also good for two
When you in the doghouse with the mingy old pup
You may start to thinkin' and a givin' up
Your wine, women and song
The Home You're Tearin' Down
I don't know your name I wouldn't know your face But you're right with the one I love out there someplace You have an invitation be free to come around Come over anytime and see the home you're tearin' down
Once some happy faces would have met you at the door But since their daddy's gone so much they don't smile anymore There's shattered parts of broken hearts just scattered all around Come over anytime and see the home you're tearin' down [ Steel ] I'll dry all my tears and have the coffee hot
Cause I can't sleep a wink no more time's all I've got You see the price I'm payin' for happiness you've found Come over anytime and see the home you're tearin' down
You've told how much you loved him you can surely tell me too I'd like to know just what you've done to make him turn to you I swallow pride and hear you sigh if you'll just come around Come over anytime and see the home you're tearin' down
Dear Uncle Sam
Dear Uncle Sam, I know your a busy man, And tonight I write to you Through tears with a tremblin' hand.
My darlin answered when He got that call from you. You said you really need him But you don't need him like I do.
Don't misunderstand I know he's fighting for our land I really love my country But I also love my man. He proudly wears the colors Of the ole red, white, and blue While I wear a heartache Since he left me for you.
Dear Uncle Sam I just got your telegram And I can't believe that this is me Shakin like I am For it said "I'm sorry to inform you..."
You Ain't Woman Enough
You've come to tell me something you say I ought to know He don't love me anymore and I'll have to let him go You say you're gonna take him, oh but I don't think you can 'Cause you ain't woman enough to take my man
Women like you, they're a dime a dozen, you can buy 'em anywhere For you to get to him, I'd have to move over and I'm gonna stand right here It'll be over my dead body so get out while you can 'Cause you ain't woman enough to take my man
Well, let me tell you something Loretta
Sometimes a man starts lookin' at things that he don't need He took a second look at you but he's in love with me Well, I don't know where that leaves you, oh but I know where I'll stand And you ain't woman enough to take my man
Women like you, they're a dime a dozen, you can buy 'em anywhere For you to get to him, I'd have to move over and I'm gonna stand right here It'll be over my dead body so get out while you can 'Cause you ain't woman enough to take my man No, you ain't woman enough to take my man
Oh, you just thought she was gonna get it now, didn't ya?
Don't Come Home A – Drinkin
Well you thought I'd be waitin' up
When you came home last night
You'd been out with all the boys
And you ended up half tight
But liquor and love
They just don't mix
Leave the bottle or me behind
And don't come home a drinkin'
With lovin' on your mind
No don't come home a drinkin'
With lovin' on your mind
Just stay out there on the town
And see what you can find
'Cause if you want that kind of love
Well ya don't need none of mine
So don't come home a drinkin'
With lovin' on your mind
You never take me anywhere
Because you're always gone
And many a night I've laid awake
And cried here all alone
Then you come in, a kissin' on me
It happens every time
No don't come home a drinkin'
With lovin' on your mind
No, don't come home a drinkin'
With lovin' on your mind
Just stay out there on the town
And see what you can find
'Cause if you want that kind of love
Well, you don't need none of mine
So don't come home a drinkin'
With lovin' on your mind
No don't come home a drinkin'
With lovin' on your mind
These Boots Are Made for Walkin
You keep a sayin' you got something for me
Something you call love but confess yes
You've been a messin' where you shouldn't been a messin'
And now someone else is a gettin' all your best.
These boots are made for walkin'
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots
Are gonna walk all over you.
You keep lyin' when you ought to be true then
And you keep loosin' when you ought enough bad
You keep a samin' when you oughta be a changin'
The what's right is right and you ain't been right yet.
These boots are made for walkin'
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots

These boots are made for walkin'
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots
Are gonna walk all over you.
Come on boots let's walk all over...
What Kind of Girl
You want me to prove my love for you
I'm surprised that's the way you're askin' me to
You've known me so long I can't understand
What kind of a girl do you think I am
What kind of a girl do you want for a wife
Do you want a girl who knows that much about life
Well if that's what you want take me out of your plans
What kind of a girl do you think I am
What kind of a girl would do the things
You're askin' me to without wedding rings
Is it what you must do to prove you're a man
What kind of a girl do you think I am
What kind of a girl do you want for a wife
Do you want a girl who knows that much about life
Well if that's what you want take me out of your plans
What kind of a girl do you think I am
Fist City
You've been makin' your braggs around town
That you've been a lovin' my man
But the man I love
When he picks up trash
He puts it in a garbage can
And that's what you look like to me
And what I see's a pitty
You better close you face and stay outta my way
If you don't wanna go to fist city
If you don't wanna go to fist city
You better detour around my town
'Cause I'll grab a you by the hair a the head
And I'll lift off of the ground
I'm not a sayin' my baby's at saint
'Cause he ain't
And that he won't cat around with a kitty
I'm here to tell you gal to lay off a my man
If you don't want to go to fist city
Come on and tell me what you told my friends
If you think you're brave enough
And I'll show you what a real woman is
Since you think you're hot stuff
You'll bite off more than you can chew
If you get to cute or witty
You better move your feet
If you don't wanna eat
A meal that's called fist city
If you don't wanna go to fist city
You better detour around my town
'Cause I'll grab a you by the hair a the head
And I'll lift off of the ground
I'm not a sayin' my baby's at saint
'Cause he ain't
And that he won't cat around with a kitty
I'm here to tell you gal to lay off a my man
If you don't want to go to fist city
I'm here to tell you gal to lay off of my man
If you don't wanna go to fist city
Two Mules Pull This Wagon
Well you come home most every night as grouchy as can be
And start right in a pickin' on our little kids and me
I'm sick and tired of hearin' are you worth keep you a trigon
Cause you seem to forget big boy that two mules pull this wagon
Yeah two mules pull this wagon you don't do it by yourself
I know you've got a heavy load but it give you lots of hell
I do my share of pullin' and I don't mean to be bridled
But you seem to forget big boy that two mules pull this wagon
[ guitar - steel ]
Well I guess you think while you're at work I sit and watch TV
But you'd learn different honey if you'd spent one day with me
I'm washin' ironin' cookin' so and find out for your nigher
But you seem to forget big boy that two mules pull this wagon
Yeah two mules pull this wagon...
Yeah you seem to forget big boy that two mules pull this wagon
Your Squaw Is on the Warpath
Well, your pet name for me is Squaw
When you come home a drinkin' and can barely crawl
And all that lovin' on me won't make things right
Well, you leave me at home to keep the teepee clean
Six papooses to break and when wean
Well, your squaw is on the warpath tonight.
Well, I've found out a big brave chief
The game you're a huntin' for ain't beef
Get off of my huntin' grounds and get out of my sight
This war dance I'm doin' means I'm fightin' mad
You need no more of what you've already had
Your squaw is on the warpath tonight.
--- Instrumental ---
Well, that fire-water that you've been drinking
Makes you feel bigger but chief you're shrinking
Since you've been on that love making diet
Now don't hand me that ole peace pipe
There ain't no pipe can settle this fight
Your squaw is on the warpath tonight.
Well, I've found out a big brave chief
The game you're a huntin' for ain't beef
Get off of my huntin' grounds and get out of my sight
This war dance I'm doin' means I'm fightin' mad
You need no more of what you've already had
Your squaw is on the warpath tonight.
Yeah, your squaw is on the warpath tonight...
Rated "X"
Well, if you've been a married woman
And things didn't seem to work out
Divorce is the key to bein' loose and free
So you're gonna be talked about.
Everybody knows that you've loved once
So they think you'll love again
You can't have a male friend
When you're a has been
Of a woman you're rated X.
And if you're rated X you're some kind of goal
Every man might try to make
But I think it's wrong to judge every picture
If a cheap camera makes a mistake.
And when your best friend's husband says to you
You've sure started lookin' good
You should've known he would
And he would if he could and he will if you're rated X.
--- Instrumental ---
Well, nobody knows where you're goin'
But they sure know where you've been
All their thinkin' of is your experience of love
Their minds eat up with sin.
The women all look at you like you're bad
And the men all hope you are
But if you go too far you're gonna wear the scar
Of a woman rated X.
And if you're rated X you're some kind of goal
Every man might try to make
But I think it's wrong to judge every picture
If a cheap camera makes a mistake.
And when your best friend's husband says to you
You've sure started lookin' good
You should've known he would
And he would if he could and he will if you're rated X
They Don't Make 'Em Like My Daddy
I wasn't much more than a baby, I thought he was a bear
The way my daddy carried me around
They said I learned to walk while holdin' on to just one finger
On the hand of a man that stands at six-foot-three.
Not old enough to understand the meaning of depression
Just something people talked about a lot
My daddy wasn't one that tried to make no big impressions
Just one heck of a man that worked for what he got.
They don't make men like my daddy anymore
Guess they've thrown away the pattern through the years
In a great big land of freedom at a time we really need 'em
They don't make 'em like my daddy anymore.
--- Instrumental ---
From the Johnson County coal camps to the hills of West Virginia
My daddy hauled the timber for the mines
Education didn't count so much as what you had born in you
Like the will to live and a dream of better times.
Daddy never took a handout, we ate pinto beans and bacon
But he worked to keep the wolf back from the door
And it only proves one thing to me when folks start belly achin'
They don't make 'em like my daddy anymore.
They don't make men like my daddy anymore
Guess they've thrown away the pattern through the years
In a great big land of freedom at a time we really need 'em
They don't make 'em like my daddy anymore.
They don't make 'em like my daddy anymore...
Women's Prison
I'm in a women's prison with bars all around
I caught my darlin cheatin that's when I shot him down
I caught him in a honky-tonk with a girl I used to know
The door to my cell is open wide and a voice cries out oh no
The judge says I'm guilty my sentence is to die
I know I've been forgiven but the price of love is high
The crowd outside is screamin' let the murderer die
But above all their voices I
can hear my mama cry
I'm sittin' here on death row and Lord I've lost my mind
For love I've killed my darlin and for love I'll lose my life
I can hear the warden coming
From the clinging of his keys
But when they come to get me
He'll have to drag me off my kness
The door to my cell swings open
It's time for me to go
The priest is reading my last rights
He says dying's part of livin' ya know
And there's a crowd outside screamin' let that murderer fry
But above all their voices
You can hear my mama cry
Now they've strapped me in the chair
And covered up my eyes
And the last voice I hear on Earth
Is my mama's cry
Sissy spacek
