Chained for Life tackles an issue that's rarely seen discussed yet is absolutely pervasive in any conceivable human society: lookism. The character in the film plays a character who plays a character; in this blending of set and reality, truths are told through lines and lines have become truths. In the meantime, the weight of (unwelcome) truths is cancelled the moment when reality breaks in, much like in real life truths have become unspeakable and people have made a habit of covering them with frivolous jokes and trivialities.
致敬了Pauline Kael和Tod Browning(开场箴言及她打扮的助理;Freaks 1932),除了演员的论述外,片中片一直在创造“看见并非真实”的环境,甚至最后尼日利亚司机的画外音引出的也不是另一处故事,而是继续验证不同场景下表演类似性的理论;

终于看到一部好的mumblecore新片了。b级片戏仿,赫尔佐格(一个操着德国口音英语的欧洲艺术片导演)戏仿,“一个疤痕杀手”,snap zoom和“像Orson Welles那样”的笑话。导演演员剥削物化patronizing畸形人而不自知,实际生活又与他们完全隔离——畸形人住不了宾馆因为“没有无障碍设施”,睡在好似集体病房的整形医院有优生学的黑历史,但对此畸形人皆无特别反应。普通与畸形演员在呈现“故事”(外表之外我们另一种同世界交互的方式)时的错位,让人感到作者不是只想讲lookism及其在电影文化上的影响。观众不会被迫为片中的边缘人物产生同情,而这正是影片的point,他们就是同我们一样的人,有自己的想法与创造力,就像结尾那个“普通”的出租车司机,很可能是个隐于人海的天才。
女主的审美观真的有点异于常人,有点不可思议。而且看完整部电影都不知道主题是什么。
0.2/10 再怎么看,也未曾想到此片竟然会是《宣言》降级版。没有了美貌演员的换装秀,本就漫长晦涩的故事更难以忍耐。当然,这部电影我只能感到的是各位制作人与表演者为满足自己的欲望而乱拍一气的一堆废料,丝毫没感到有任何深度。戏中戏的手法不是不欢迎,但越往后故事越乱,更别提剪辑全程下线。拿着一个没有完整展现的电影剧本,念着其中毫无价值的台词。你说这是艺术,我不会斥责;但在本人看来,这部电影真的只能用"垃圾"来形容。
